Forward Celebrates Western County Insurance Legacy

July 17, 2021

Forward Insurance has donated $50,000 to celebrate the long history of Western County Insurance and the Luetschwagers to the Athens Area Trails Association.

The Athens Area Trails Association will have multiple trail projects going on at the same time. The donated funds will be earmarked for a new trail that will progress from Nathan Street to County Road M. The other part of this project is rehabilitating a trail near the Erbach Park Shelter that runs along the Black Creek. Being involved with projects like the Big Poniatowski trail make the current improvements necessary to highlight the natural features of the Village of Athens.

“Glen and Lynn have been involved so many aspects of the Athens community throughout their lives,” commented Bill Sennholz, CEO of Forward Bank – the parent company of Forward Insurance. “Glen’s commitment, energy, and involvement in the Athens trails project gave Forward the opportunity to not only pay tribute to two community members, but also demonstrate our dedication to supporting non-profits in the Athens area. We know that the community will follow suit and contribute to this valuable initiative.”

“We are excited that the donation by Forward Insurance has provided a lift to our fundraising efforts for this extensive project,” commented Steve Brewster, Athens Trails Association. “The larger Odyssey Trails network is used year-round by bikers, walkers and skiers, and the extension of this trail system will be a valuable resource for our community. It is fantastic to see a company like Forward Insurance celebrate the legacy of their employees that give back so much to the community. We hope to see additional community support for this project as we move forward.”

Groundbreaking on the new section of trails is planned for Fall of 2021 with ultimate completion of the trail to be in 2022. A ribbon cutting ceremony and guided hikes will be held in early Summer of 2022. Improvements throughout the trail system provide improved accessibility for all that like to enjoy the outdoors. The Athens Trails Association continue to actively work with area business and the Athens School District to complete this project.
