Supporting Local with Hugs for the Holidays
December 28, 2022
Forward Bank and Forward Insurance combined forces to continue the annual tradition of supporting local businesses and non-profits in Athens this holiday season.
Alvira Henrichs (pictured above) was a delighted recipient of a poinsettia, along with the other residents of Athenian Living care facilities. Poinsettias were purchased from a flower shop based in Medford, WI. Forward also partnered with Athens Acres 4-H to include handmade cards with each poinsettia.
“Hugs for the Holidays” began in the Athens community three years ago. The impact was nearly doubled from the previous year with a total of 130 meals distributed to locals who registered in advance. Meals were provided by Cocina on The Square on Monday, December 19.
While the meals were available to all community members, gift cards were also provided to customers for use at a local business: A&L Oil, Athens IGA, or Landmark Bar. These cards were another way to encourage shopping local or paying it forward for others.
“By offering holiday meals, poinsettias and a monetary donation to Circle of Joy, we are able to invest in the Athens community,” stated Tracy Engel, Office Manager at Forward Bank in Athens. “Participating members are helping us live our mission by engaging in these programs and choosing to keep their finances local.”
